SLENDERBODIES ARRIVAL
A quick search on TMR will let you know that we sure do love Slenderbodies boys Max Vehuni and Benji Cormack, who continue to release slinky alt-pop tracks that we simply can’t resist. ‘Arrival’, with its guitar loops, gentle percussion and breathy vocals, is the latest number we’ve taken to our liking. More than being a blissfully ambient and hushed indie-pop tune, ‘Arrival’ is also accompanied by a watch-worthy music video directed by Savannah Setten. Set in a Ukranian prison, the visual follows the everyday existence of the inmates, peppered with moments of expressive dance which is exceedingly pleasant to watch. This way, Slenderbodies subtle poses a political message of solidarity in the face of extreme circumstances, and thus ‘Arrival’ takes on a whole new, deeper meaning. As the screen pans out and away from the prison, the video returns to poetical statement spoken in Ukranian: “I guess it’s the hardest thing, surrendering to a reality that isn’t yours. You fall back down to earth from a sky your hope created. There’s something we say here, when your limbs are aching to return; through this window, I see freedom and it is beautiful.” - Hannah Thacker
